November 2010 update

Small brief update of Cathcart family of boys...Preston arrived home from his mission March 2010. It was an awesome reunion! Tanner left on his mission to Texas Ft Worth mission July 28th. He is greatly missed, but is doing fantastic! He's already training a new missionary after barely being trained. Devin and Nathan just finished swim team season and marching band season.

We got a new mastiff puppy first of Sept. Took her, Zena, camping with us in Mt. Graham at 6 weeks old. She just passed away the day after Thanksgiving with a blockage of some sort. She was already huge and still growing. We got our "non-cat-family" cat's fixed last week...hip hip hooray.

Gone to Pima & Safford for Thanksgiving, great time with the Jarvis's that were there, shopping at Walmart was good for me and bad for the pocket book. Dennis took all the boys out hunting quail and mostly shooting practice with his whole arsenal. I will try to post pics soon.

I love my family Cathcart/Jarvis...they are THE BEST!

Tanner's Eagle Project

Tanner organized a team to remove bleachers, clear out areas, pour concrete under bleachers for better safety and return bleachers to concrete slabs

on the 1st work day the clouds rolled in as it had rained the entire week almost so we were hoping to not work in the pouring rain...After a little faith and prayer...out poked the Suns beautiful face and we had a sunny dry work day on day 1 of the project!The "muscle men" moved the bleachers off to the side so we could clear out the weeds, and level the dirt.

Then in went the forms, with more dirt leveling.Had to remove old 2x4's from bottom of bleachers and replace with new unweathered ones.

We had the best of intentions as far as mailing out Christmas photo cards this year, still haven't YET, but this is one of the pics from the collage I made...what a joke to think the boys would be serious at all for any picture, this is the only one out of many!Devin and Dennis worked on his science project one Sunday night till 3am cuz it was due the following day, but it was pretty doggone cool, he got an A+++ if there is such a thing. Its called a "rube-goldberg"project.

Tanner was selected to be in Honor band in the High School District, they performed in December and he loved it, what a treat to get to play with so many good performers!

Nathan got to perform in December in his piano recital; we were so proud of him that he was the only one that memorized both of his piano pieces!

Flooding in Cedar Rapids Iowa

Here is a picture of downtown Cedar Rapids. Notice there are buildings half underwater and no streets...just water! Take note of the Dairy Queen-no more blizzards I guess. Also the next pic with building half submerged...sad times!

I think the big building is on "May Island" and the bridge in the front of the building is almost underwater. Preston and his comp went walking on this Island to take pictures. Looks like cars are trying to evacuate.

Mercy is the hospital in Cedar Rapids that got flooded. They formed a line in the flood waters to assembly line the sandbags in to try to save the rest of the hospital. Preston was on the inside and could see the water pressing against the windows.

This is the Sonic Prest spent his 1st P-day at, now they are boating down the street???hmmm

Here is the same crew after the waters receded at a WWII vet that lost all his memorabilia in the floods as well as love letters and albums from his sweetheart. Prest said there are piles of stinky garbage in front of everyone's homes. Its smelling like a city dump.

Here is one of the "gangs" sandbagging fast and furious. Then the group of missionaries in the area. After the flood came and rolled right over the top of the sandbags, the Elders went thru a neighborhood to check on some people they knew and found the alley-way thigh high in flood water as you see Preston here.

They sandbagged till they were sunburnt and exhausted.

Here is Elder Cathcart in Cedar Rapids the day before the levies broke, sandbagging with all the other missionaries. They had quite the incredible and devastating weekend and still recovering from the flooding.

Nathan is playing on the "Dodgers" this season for baseball. He's had a couple years off from this sport and decided he wanted to play again. He may be a couple of heads smaller than everyone, but no one his size has his determination. The boy next to him in this pic is an opposing player, notice the size difference. Nathan has not even mentioned being nervous or anything. Good Job little Man!

Tanner received his Varsity Letter this year during tennis. He also received 2 other awards at his tennis banquet: MVP and Rookie of the Year. It was his first year to play tennis! Good Job my boy!

Pat's Run 2008

Dennis, Tanner, & Devin ran in Pat's Run this year in Tempe. Its a 4.2 mile run in honor of Pat Tillman, an Army Ranger who gave up a Pro football contract to join the Army and become a Ranger.My boys all did so well. Tanner came in 212 out of 7448 overall. Devin and Dennis did well too, but boy were they sore!

Meet our Guest of Honor at our Pig Roast

We got to house Lucy/Babe the pig for a couple of weeks awaiting our Ward's Pig Roast Fund Raiser for Young Men and Young Women for camp this summer. She weighed over 300lbs. Everyone said she tasted delicious, pork roast slowly cooked for 12 or more hours. Myself, I couldnt hardly down the delicious tender pork roast. Bummer, not that I got attached or anything, she smelled horrible and drew a lot of flies, why would I be attached. But just couldnt eat it. Dennis, Tanner, and Devin said it was great, Nathan was with me on this, not really able to enjoy the roast pig. Our fund raiser party was a big success though.

They won their first match but lost 2nd cuz they were so tired from the sun and only had a short break before their 2nd match. Their opposing team was well rested cuz they had a bye while these 2 were playing 1st match. It was the hottest day we've had all year long and they could not get hydrated enough. They did great as a doubles team, and only played together 3 matches. Watch out for this doubles team next year!

Sis. Montierth is a great friend of my sister Karen in Safford, and Karen is the one who scanned and emailed this picture to me, that Sis. M sent her in the mail...whew, that was a long explanation.

Preston is now is Cedar Rapids Iowa. He said it is beautiful there and he is already feeling at home. They've tracted, taught, and met some members in their area. His comp is Elder Butterfield. He's doing great!

I have attached a video (hopefully) of Preston opening his mission call. He left on March 19,2008. Dennis, Tanner and I (Carolyn) drove him to the MTC. We had lots of laughs. (and then lots of tears, but happy ones) He leaves for Iowa on April 9th. Yippee he gets to phone home that day from the airport...can't wait. He's doing great. LOVES the MTC, LOVES the Gospel!
